Jacobs Family Cemetery

Today Elyse and I went to a cemetery in a bowling alley parking lot!

This is what findagrave.com has to say about it:

"The Jacobs Family Cemetery is in Loganville, GA and in Gwinnett County, Georgia. This cemetery is 3 miles N.W. of Loganville on the old Jacobs land on Athens Highway (Hwy 78). The Old Jacobs Homestead was across the street and believed to have been built-in 1833.

"A development called Creekside Landing built on this land and preserved the cemetery. There are only two marked graves and several unmarked ones. It is believed to be the burial-place of Elisha Jacobs the Patriarch of the Jacob Family.

"Many of William G. Jacobs and John Thomas Jacobs' family are buried at Loganville Gardens about 3 miles down the highway.

"The stairs leading to the cemetery are hidden from the main road, but can be accessed from the parking lot of the nearby Stars & Strikes business. Gate to cemetery is kept locked by an unknown keyholder. Stair path is badly overgrown with vegetation and covered with litter."

Archery with Elyse

Two years (and a week) after Elyse and I first went to Panola Mountain State Park to visit the archery range, we went back for the same reason.

The two pictures above were taken by Elyse and texted to me. I took all the rest.

Elyse made a bullseye! (Which I keep wanting to call "a hole in one")

Here, she is just posing, showing off her form for the camera

Panola Mountain State Park Archery Range

Today Elyse and I went to the Panola Mountain State Park Archery Range to do some shooting (but only at the "static" targets--the targets that look like targets--and not at the 3D targets, which are shaped like animals; that seems creepy and wrong to us, shooting arrows at animals, even pretend ones).

Here are a couple of pictures Elyse took of me there.

Star Gazing

Elyse and I went stargazing tonight at Bay Creek Park, in the baseball field that's farthest back in the park, away from the lights. She was hoping to see the green comet; we didn't, but we had a good time anyway.

This is the view from the ballfield looking towards the lights; it wasn't as bright as this picture makes it seem:

Zoo Atlanta with Elyse

Today Elyse and I went to Zoo Atlanta, one of our first outings to anywhere farther than a couple of miles from home since the coronavirus pandemic began. We had to wear masks most of the time (which is the correct requirement; I don't know that I would have been willing to go if masks had been optional), and the path through was very rigid and set, unlike the meandering back and forth you can usually get away with, but it was nice to be out and to be...well, anywhere, frankly, besides home.

Here are some of the pictures I took while we were there:

(Elyse did wear her mask most of the time, but obviously she took it off to drink.)

(They are so like our cats at home, these lions. And also not.)

Tonight Elyse and I went to the Journey to Bethlehem at Snellville UMC. Here are a few pictures I took during the two hour wait before we started on the journey:

Post 600: Putt-Putt with Elyse

Blogger tells me that this is the 600th post on our blog!

This afternoon Elyse went with Jessica and Mommy to play tennis at our neighborhood tennis court; Elyse didn't have a very good time and didn't feel like she did very well at tennis, so she wanted me to take her to do something she thought she'd be better at: miniature golf at Stone Mountain.

So I did.

Unfortunately, we got there just a few minutes before they closed (at 5:00 on a Saturday? Yes, I guess since it's still technically winter and they aren't really that busy) so we didn't get to play as long as we would have liked, but it was still fun and I'm glad we went. We didn't keep score, and I only played the first couple of holes, and we skipped around a bit and only did about ten holes:

There's no golf going on here, I just like taking pictures of this part of Crossroads:

(It wasn't as empty as this picture would lead you to believe.)

Snow Mountain is currently being taken down, so the lawn in front of Memorial Hall is both unusable and unpassable:

Before we left I took this portrait of Elyse:

On the way home we stopped for supper at Elyse's favorite restaurant, Moe's, where we ate lots of chips and queso (though I didn't take any pictures of that).

Father-Daughter Dance

Tonight Elyse and I went to the Father-Daughter Dance at her school. Anna took this picture of us before we left:

Here are a couple of pictures I took of Elyse there:

and a selfie we made together while we were waiting to get our formal pictures taken:

Elyse took this picture of me in the gym:

It was very well attended, though this picture doesn't quite indicate just how busy and full the gym really was:

It was a masquerade ball, and they provided masks for the girls (and anyone else who wanted to put one on, I suppose), but Elyse couldn't quite settle on one to wear for the night and didn't bring one home. But she did try on a few, including this one that she had to hold in place:

Some of the really good desserts:

This is the formal portrait we had made:

(Yes, I did pay for the rights to it so I can legally post it here...in case you were wondering.)

Vines Gardens with Elyse

Today while Jessica was out having lunch with Pa for her birthday present (they went to Steak & Shake and then Book Nook) and Mom was out grocery shopping, Elyse wanted to go to Vines Gardens to walk around and take some pictures. So we did! Here are sixteen of the pictures from our walk:

She wanted me to take some pictures from across the lake:

She thought this was a good pose for a picture:

She was amazed that there is a palm tree there now (near where the green house used to be). She thought it felt funny:

In mid-twirl:

She thought her doing a split on a bench would make a good picture:

She was please with her ability to balance on the Asian Garden's boardwalk's posts:

On our way home, we stopped at Publix and got little chocolate-covered donuts for a snack! (But I didn't take any pictures of them.)
